[email protected] Season as Head Coach at South…..Served as an assistant coach at DeLaSalle from 1985-1990 and at South from 1992-1996…..Attended Minneapolis Community and Technical College and then transferred to the University of Minnesota and Graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Kineseology…..Earned his Master’s Degree in Industrial Technology…..Played professionally in Europe during the 1990/91 season…..Coach Hyser’s goals include improving on last season’s record as well as helping the young men grow and develop their skills. He wants the team to be able to develop a bond which leads to great teamwork…..He hopes to use basketball as a way to show that education is something that all his players should value.

Assistant Coach Charles Hallman: 25th season as an Assistant Coach at South…..Longest tenured assistant coach in Minneapolis City Conference…..Served in assistant coaching positions at three city schools before coming to South, first as girls assistant varsity and girls freshman coach (1990-91) then as boys freshman coach (1995-98) and varsity assistant (1995-present)…..Previous coaching experience include Head girls basketball coach at St. Mark's Grade School, 1986-87; Visitation High School, 1987-90; Totino Grace High School, 1991-93…..Began four-decades-plus coaching career in 1974 in Michigan State University intermural while studying for his Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, where he also earned his masters as well…..After graduation, served a season as a boys varsity assistant coach at my high school alma mater in 1977-78, under my high school coach who told him back in high school that one day he would be a coach. His only season there, the team went to the State Finals and finished runners up with a 23-3 record…..It also served as an excellent tutelage period as the late Ed Rachel really taught him how to develop, run and coach a successful program…..During his masters studies, he had his first head coaching opportunity, a two year stint with the Lansing (Mich.) Globe Rollers pro wheelchair basketball team (1978-80)…..His first Minneapolis coaching opportunity came when he was discovered by the late District Athletic Director Bill McMoore who heard about him coaching a boys team at Powderhorn Park, and he was hired as Henry boys sophomore coach in mid-1980s, and led squad to second place finish, and served as varsity assistant on that season's Region 5A runners-up to North in the last game ever played at the old Minneapolis Auditorium…..Coached youth basketball in Illinois before coming to Minnesota in 1981, and coached several AAU seasons (boys and girls) before retiring (smile) from summer ball in 1996. ….Also worked several summers at Clem Haskins Basketball Camps as coach, clinician and commissioner…..coached in two summer basketball leagues (Play It Smart - prep: Pillsbury-college) and twice finished runners-up in both leagues….Currently also works with the Clyde Turner Basketball Education Camps as assistant director since the 1990s, working with thousands of local and regional boys and girls each summer…..His mission is to help develop not only basketball players but future productive citizens of our ever changing world, hoping to have a small influence in this regard.
